Manuscript Editing for Film Quarterly Journal Articles
Since 1958, Film Quarterly has offered “in-depth articles, reviews, and interviews that examine all aspects of film history, film theory,” and the impact of film, video, and television on culture. It covers international, Hollywood, and independent cinema, including documentary and animation, along with television and online media. The University of California Press publishes it quarterly.
Feature articles run 5,000 to 7,000 words, and pieces over 8,000 or under 2,000 are usually returned unread. Citations follow the Chicago Manual of Style as endnotes, at most one per sentence and placed after the period, with no works cited. Films are cited with the original-language title, an English translation, the director, and the year. Each submission includes three to five images cleared for copyright or fair use, an abstract of 150 words, and three to five keywords. Our essay editing applies the endnote rules and the film-citation format throughout. Submissions go through Scholastica as Word files.
Our Promise
We will ensure that the final draft you receive is completely ready to submit to Film Quarterly. We work with you until it is ready or refund your payment in full. That commitment has held since 2002.
Our editors do not have access to your manuscript until an order is placed. Your draft is secure until you decide to proceed.
Essay Editing and Proofreading for Film Quarterly
We offer three levels of manuscript editing depending on what your manuscript needs. Each is described below so you can choose the service that fits where your draft is right now.
Grammar and usage, awkward phrasing, repetition, and passive voice corrected, then clarity, concision, sentence structure, transitions, and tone, with your style manual applied throughout and a final proofread. For authors whose argument and structure are settled.
Clarity, emphasis, and paragraph structure: topic sentences, transitions, and sentences reordered within a paragraph, with every fact and claim kept as you wrote it. Includes copy editing and a final proofread.
Spelling, punctuation, typos, capitalization, grammar, and usage corrected with minimal wording changes, for manuscripts that have been edited and need a last check before submission to Film Quarterly.
The journal's submission page links the full guidelines. If you have reviewer comments from an earlier submission, send them with your manuscript and we will address each one. If you have questions about which service is right for your manuscript, contact us directly. We respond to every inquiry the same day during business hours.
See journal article and essay editing for how we edit scholarly essays, and academic proofreading for the last read before submission. For books, see University of California Press manuscript editing. We also prepare articles for JCMS.
