Manuscript Editing for Harvard Theological Review Journal Articles
Cambridge University Press publishes the Harvard Theological Review quarterly on behalf of the faculty of Harvard Divinity School, where its editors work. Since 1908 it has published research on the history and philosophy of religious thought in every tradition and period, from Hebrew Bible and New Testament to Jewish studies, theology, ethics, archaeology, and comparative religion.
The editors expect authors to work with primary sources in their original languages, and they rarely accept translations of work first published in another language. Notes are footnotes, with a full citation at first mention and a short form after that. They follow the SBL Handbook of Style and the Chicago Manual of Style, along with the Review's own style sheet. Papers seldom run past about 12,000 words. Off the Grid Editing checks that Hebrew and Greek transliteration follows one system throughout and keeps the footnotes consistent from first to last. Manuscripts go through ScholarOne.
Our Promise
We will ensure that the final draft you receive is completely ready to submit to Harvard Theological Review. We work with you until it is ready or refund your payment in full. That commitment has held since 2002.
Our editors do not have access to your manuscript until an order is placed. Your draft is secure until you decide to proceed.
Manuscript Editing and Proofreading for the Harvard Theological Review
We offer three levels of manuscript editing depending on what your manuscript needs. Each is described below so you can choose the service that fits where your draft is right now.
Grammar and usage, awkward phrasing, repetition, and passive voice corrected, then clarity, concision, sentence structure, transitions, and tone, with your style manual applied throughout and a final proofread. For authors whose argument and structure are settled.
Clarity, emphasis, and paragraph structure: topic sentences, transitions, and sentences reordered within a paragraph, with every fact and claim kept as you wrote it. Includes copy editing and a final proofread.
Spelling, punctuation, typos, capitalization, grammar, and usage corrected with minimal wording changes, for manuscripts that have been edited and need a last check before submission to Harvard Theological Review.
Cambridge's author instructions cover footnotes and the Review's house style sheet. If you have reviewer comments from an earlier submission, send them with your manuscript and we will address each one. If you have questions about which service is right for your manuscript, contact us directly. We respond to every inquiry the same day during business hours.
See journal article and essay editing for how we edit scholarly articles, and academic proofreading for the last read before submission. Our Cambridge University Press manuscript editing page covers books for the same press. We also prepare articles for more than 200 journals.
