Manuscript Editing for Journal of Asian American Studies Articles
The Journal of Asian American Studies is the official publication of the Association for Asian American Studies, published three times a year by Johns Hopkins University Press. Its articles take up Asian American and Pacific Islander experiences through theory, research, methodology, public policy, and pedagogy, and it reviews books, media, and exhibitions.
Articles run 8,000 to 10,000 words, endnotes excluded, and open with a 100-word abstract that the editors use to find reviewers. Notes follow the latest Chicago Manual of Style in documentary-note form, generated as endnotes by your word processor. After an editorial read, two or more reviewers assess each article double-blind. The journal also takes shorter Critical Pedagogy and Activist Scholarship pieces of about 3,000 words. Off the Grid Editing tightens the abstract so a reviewer can place the article at once. Submissions go through ScholarOne.

Our editors do not have access to your manuscript until an order is placed. Your draft is secure until you decide to proceed.
Manuscript Editing and Proofreading for the Journal of Asian American Studies
We offer three levels of manuscript editing depending on what your manuscript needs. Each is described below so you can choose the service that fits where your draft is right now.
Grammar and usage, awkward phrasing, repetition, and passive voice corrected, then clarity, concision, sentence structure, transitions, and tone, with your style manual applied throughout and a final proofread. For authors whose argument and structure are settled.
Clarity, emphasis, and paragraph structure: topic sentences, transitions, and sentences reordered within a paragraph, with every fact and claim kept as you wrote it. Includes copy editing and a final proofread.
Spelling, punctuation, typos, capitalization, grammar, and usage corrected with minimal wording changes, for manuscripts that have been edited and need a last check before submission to Journal of Asian American Studies.
The Johns Hopkins University Press journal page carries the author guidelines. If you have reviewer comments from an earlier submission, send them with your manuscript and we will address each one. If you have questions about which service is right for your manuscript, contact us directly. We respond to every inquiry the same day during business hours.
See journal article and essay editing for how we work on scholarly articles, and academic proofreading for the final check. For books, see Johns Hopkins University Press manuscript editing. We also prepare articles for Amerasia Journal.
