Manuscript Editing for Journal of Modern Literature Articles
The Journal of Modern Literature “emphasizes scholarly studies of literature in all languages,” along with related arts and cultural artifacts, from 1900 to the present. Indiana University Press publishes it quarterly. Its guidelines leave out linguistics, social-science studies of literature, and work on literature for young readers.
Papers run from 4,500 to under 9,000 words for the whole submission, notes and works cited included. Citations follow the MLA Handbook, 8th edition, as the guidelines name it. The abstract runs 100 to 150 words, with three to five keywords. The manuscript must be anonymous, with references to your own work in the third person or redacted. Submissions are in English, with translations for every non-English quotation, and authors pay any permission fees for illustrations or for quotations past 400 words. Each author may submit once every 12 months. Off the Grid Editing fits the whole package within the word range. You email the paper as a Word or RTF file.
Our Promise
We will ensure that the final draft you receive is completely ready to submit to Journal of Modern Literature. We work with you until it is ready or refund your payment in full. That commitment has held since 2002.
Our editors do not have access to your manuscript until an order is placed. Your draft is secure until you decide to proceed.
Manuscript Editing and Proofreading for the Journal of Modern Literature
We offer three levels of manuscript editing depending on what your manuscript needs. Each is described below so you can choose the service that fits where your draft is right now.
Grammar and usage, awkward phrasing, repetition, and passive voice corrected, then clarity, concision, sentence structure, transitions, and tone, with your style manual applied throughout and a final proofread. For authors whose argument and structure are settled.
Clarity, emphasis, and paragraph structure: topic sentences, transitions, and sentences reordered within a paragraph, with every fact and claim kept as you wrote it. Includes copy editing and a final proofread.
Spelling, punctuation, typos, capitalization, grammar, and usage corrected with minimal wording changes, for manuscripts that have been edited and need a last check before submission to Journal of Modern Literature.
The journal's submission guidelines cover scope, length, and permissions. If you have reviewer comments from an earlier submission, send them with your manuscript and we will address each one. If you have questions about which service is right for your manuscript, contact us directly. We respond to every inquiry the same day during business hours.
Our journal article and essay editing page explains how we edit literary scholarship, and academic proofreading covers the final check. We also prepare articles for Modern Fiction Studies and Modernism/modernity.
