Manuscript Editing for Journal of the History of Sexuality Articles
Since 1990, the Journal of the History of Sexuality has set out to illuminate “the history of sexuality in all its expressions,” across differences of class, culture, gender, race, and sexual orientation. The University of Texas Press publishes it three times a year. Its editorial office is in the Department of History at Queen’s University in Ontario.
Essays ideally run no more than 10,000 words, not counting notes, and fall into four sections: Studies, Texts, Methods, and Sources. Documentation follows the most current edition of the Chicago Manual of Style in footnotes, with specific page references. Essays are in English, quoted material included, with American spelling and no Latin abbreviations. After the editors screen it, an essay goes to at least two outside reviewers in a double-blind process, which takes about three months. Our essay editing checks that every footnote gives a specific page. Submissions go through the journal's online system.

Essay Editing and Proofreading for the Journal of the History of Sexuality
We offer three levels of manuscript editing depending on what your manuscript needs. Each is described below so you can choose the service that fits where your draft is right now.
Grammar and usage, awkward phrasing, repetition, and passive voice corrected, then clarity, concision, sentence structure, transitions, and tone, with your style manual applied throughout and a final proofread. For authors whose argument and structure are settled.
Clarity, emphasis, and paragraph structure: topic sentences, transitions, and sentences reordered within a paragraph, with every fact and claim kept as you wrote it. Includes copy editing and a final proofread.
Spelling, punctuation, typos, capitalization, grammar, and usage corrected with minimal wording changes, for manuscripts that have been edited and need a last check before submission to Journal of the History of Sexuality.
The journal's submission guidelines cover length, sections, and documentation. If you have reviewer comments from an earlier submission, send them with your manuscript and we will address each one. If you have questions about which service is right for your manuscript, contact us directly. We respond to every inquiry the same day during business hours.
Our journal article and essay editing page explains how we edit historical scholarship, and academic proofreading covers the final check. We also prepare articles for GLQ and Signs.
