Manuscript Editing for Science, Technology, & Human Values Journal Articles

Order Manuscript Editing Since 1972, Science, Technology, & Human Values has been a forum for research and debate on how science and technology relate to politics, economy, society, and culture. It is collectively edited and transnational. Sage publishes it for the Society for Social Studies of Science.

Original articles run no more than 8,000 words, excluding the abstract, endnotes, and references; review essays run up to 5,000. Citations follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 16th edition, author-date, with page numbers for quoted material. Endnotes are kept for extended elaboration. The abstract runs no more than 200 words. Review is double-anonymized, needs two independent reviews, and may take up to six months. Off the Grid Editing applies Chicago author-date and trims to the word limit. Submissions go through Sage Track.

Human Manuscript Editor

Natural Intelligence for Science, Technology, & Human Values

Natural Intelligence is our name for editorial judgment: an editor who reads your manuscript the way the editors and peer reviewers of the Science, Technology, & Human Values will and verifies every change before it comes back to you. We read as an STS scholar does, checking that each technology, controversy, and actor is described consistently. Track Changes stays on throughout.

Our Promise

We will ensure that the final draft you receive is completely ready to submit to Science, Technology, & Human Values. We work with you until it is ready or refund your payment in full. That commitment has held since 2002.

Our editors do not have access to your manuscript until an order is placed. Your draft is secure until you decide to proceed.

Manuscript Editing and Proofreading for Science, Technology, & Human Values

We offer three levels of manuscript editing depending on what your manuscript needs. Each is described below so you can choose the service that fits where your draft is right now.

Manuscript Copy Editing

Grammar and usage, awkward phrasing, repetition, and passive voice corrected, then clarity, concision, sentence structure, transitions, and tone, with your style manual applied throughout and a final proofread. For authors whose argument and structure are settled.

Manuscript Line Editing

Clarity, emphasis, and paragraph structure: topic sentences, transitions, and sentences reordered within a paragraph, with every fact and claim kept as you wrote it. Includes copy editing and a final proofread.

Manuscript Proofreading

Spelling, punctuation, typos, capitalization, grammar, and usage corrected with minimal wording changes, for manuscripts that have been edited and need a last check before submission to Science, Technology, & Human Values.

Chicago Author-Date for ST&HV

Our journal article and essay editing page explains how we edit social science articles, and academic proofreading is the final pass.
