Soho Press publishes fiction. Its list is divided among three imprints: Soho Press for literary fiction, Soho Crime for international crime fiction, and Soho Teen for young adult novels, so the first question about any manuscript headed there is which of the three it belongs to.
Off the Grid Editing prepares fiction manuscripts for Soho Press at the sentence level. A crime novel needs its timeline, names, and clues to hold steady from chapter to chapter; a literary or young adult novel needs a voice that stays consistent from the first page to the last. We edit for both. Off the Grid works in Chicago style and applies the press's own guidelines when the author sends them.

Clarity, emphasis, and paragraph structure: topic sentences, transitions, and sentences reordered within a paragraph, with every fact and claim kept as you wrote it. Includes copy editing and a final proofread.
Spelling, punctuation, typos, capitalization, grammar, and usage corrected with minimal wording changes, for manuscripts that have been edited and need a last check before submission to Soho Press.
Every Soho Press imprint publishes fiction. Its submissions page describes how manuscripts reach its editors, and it is the page to read before you send anything. If you have received editorial guidelines or reader feedback from Soho Press, include them with your manuscript and we will address them throughout our edit.
