Manuscript Editing for Studies in the Age of Chaucer Journal Articles
Founded in 1979, Studies in the Age of Chaucer is the annual yearbook of the New Chaucer Society. It publishes work on the writing and culture of later medieval Britain, from 1200 to 1500, along with later writing that engages it. The society publishes it, with issues online through Project MUSE. Its co-editors are in the English departments at the University of Notre Dame and the University of Kansas.
Articles usually run 9,000 to 15,000 words, opening with an abstract of about 250 words. Citations follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 16th edition, in double-spaced footnotes, with later references by author and short title and no list of works cited. The journal welcomes work on texts in Middle English, French, Latin, Hebrew, and other languages of the period. Most articles go to two anonymous readers, with reports usually within three months. Off the Grid Editing sets the footnotes in Chicago form and checks each Middle English quotation against your edition. Submissions go by email as a Word file, with identifying details on a separate coversheet.

Manuscript Editing and Proofreading for Studies in the Age of Chaucer
We offer three levels of manuscript editing depending on what your manuscript needs. Each is described below so you can choose the service that fits where your draft is right now.
Grammar and usage, awkward phrasing, repetition, and passive voice corrected, then clarity, concision, sentence structure, transitions, and tone, with your style manual applied throughout and a final proofread. For authors whose argument and structure are settled.
Clarity, emphasis, and paragraph structure: topic sentences, transitions, and sentences reordered within a paragraph, with every fact and claim kept as you wrote it. Includes copy editing and a final proofread.
Spelling, punctuation, typos, capitalization, grammar, and usage corrected with minimal wording changes, for manuscripts that have been edited and need a last check before submission to Studies in the Age of Chaucer.
The society's submission guidelines cover length, footnotes, and anonymity. If you have reviewer comments from an earlier submission, send them with your manuscript and we will address each one. If you have questions about which service is right for your manuscript, contact us directly. We respond to every inquiry the same day during business hours.
See journal article and essay editing for how we edit medieval scholarship, and academic proofreading for the last read before submission. If English is your second language, see English language editing for researchers. We also prepare articles for Shakespeare Quarterly and PMLA.
