Manuscript Editing for RAND Corporation Reports
RAND is a nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization, and it publishes the work of its own researchers: reports, research briefs, and tools, more than 10,000 of them available on its website. The research reaches decision-makers in defense, health, education, and other policy fields. RAND applies published standards for high-quality, objective research and analysis to its research products, with guidance for product review.
Off the Grid edits for RAND researchers and coauthors preparing reports for RAND's publication process, and for policy researchers elsewhere who write reports to a comparable standard. The work is sentence-level. We keep your analysis exactly as you wrote it while making the findings readable for a decision-maker who may read only the summary, and we check that tables, figures, and text agree with each other.
Our Promise
We will ensure that the final draft you receive is completely ready for RAND's review process or the publisher you are writing for. We work with you until it is ready or refund your payment in full. That commitment has held since 2002.
Our editors do not have access to your manuscript until an order is placed. Your draft is secure until you decide to proceed.
Manuscript Editing Services for RAND Reports
We offer three levels of manuscript editing depending on what your manuscript needs. Each is described below so you can choose the service that fits where your draft is right now.
Grammar and usage, awkward phrasing, repetition, and passive voice corrected, then clarity, concision, sentence structure, transitions, and tone, with your style manual applied throughout and a final proofread. For authors whose argument and structure are settled.
Clarity, emphasis, and paragraph structure: topic sentences, transitions, and sentences reordered within a paragraph, with every fact and claim kept as you wrote it. Includes copy editing and a final proofread.
Spelling, punctuation, typos, capitalization, grammar, and usage corrected with minimal wording changes, for manuscripts that have been edited and need a last check before submission to RAND's review process.
RAND's research and commentary page lists its published research products. Off the Grid works in Chicago style or APA, as your report calls for, and applies RAND's own guidelines when you send them. Our editors mark passages where a policy implication should be stated more directly for a decision-maker. If you have questions about which service is right for your manuscript, contact us directly. We respond to every inquiry the same day during business hours.
For academic presses, see our page on manuscript editing for academic presses. We also offer book and manuscript editing, developmental editing, and dissertation to book editing.
