University of Minnesota Press Manuscript Editing Services
The University of Minnesota Press is recognized internationally for an innovative editorial program in the humanities and social sciences. Its key subject areas include media studies, critical theory, cultural studies, environmental studies, and performance studies, and many of its books introduce new frameworks or bring established theory to new objects. Much of that work is theoretical.
Off the Grid Editing prepares manuscripts for University of Minnesota Press submissions in Chicago style and applies Minnesota's own guidelines when you send them. Our editors are experienced in the interdisciplinary humanities and in the cultural studies and critical theory traditions that run through the Minnesota list. We edit for clarity first.
Our Promise
We will ensure that the final draft you receive is completely ready to submit to University of Minnesota Press. We work with you until it is ready or refund your payment in full. That commitment has held since 2002.
Our editors do not have access to your manuscript until an order is placed. Your draft is secure until you decide to proceed.
Manuscript Editing Services for University of Minnesota Press
We offer three levels of manuscript editing depending on what your manuscript needs. Each is described below so you can choose the service that fits where your draft is right now.
Grammar and usage, awkward phrasing, repetition, and passive voice corrected, then clarity, concision, sentence structure, transitions, and tone, with your style manual applied throughout and a final proofread. For authors whose argument and structure are settled.
Clarity, emphasis, and paragraph structure: topic sentences, transitions, and sentences reordered within a paragraph, with every fact and claim kept as you wrote it. Includes copy editing and a final proofread.
Spelling, punctuation, typos, capitalization, grammar, and usage corrected with minimal wording changes, for manuscripts that have been edited and need a last check before submission to the University of Minnesota Press.
University of Minnesota Press manuscripts often introduce new frameworks, challenge established methods, or bring existing theory to new objects. Our editors check that a new framework is introduced once and used the same way after, that the manuscript's intervention in its field is clear, and that ambitious theoretical argument stays legible. Send any guidelines from your editor. More about the press is on the University of Minnesota Press website. If you have questions about which service is right for your manuscript, contact us directly. We respond to every inquiry the same day during business hours.
