Manuscript Editing for Engaging Science, Technology, and Society Journal Articles
Founded in 2015, Engaging Science, Technology, and Society is a big-tent venue for conversations about science, technology, and society. It aims for work that STS scholars, students, practitioners, policymakers, and activists can all read. The Society for Social Studies of Science publishes it fully open access, with no fees to authors.
From 2026, the journal has one flexible category: contributions of any length up to 9,000 words, counting the abstract and footnotes but leaving out references. Unconventional formats need a cover letter explaining genre and purpose. Citations follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition, author-date, with DOIs where available. Non-English references stay in the original language with a translated title. The abstract runs up to 250 words. After an editorial pre-review, usually within two weeks, review is generally double-blind. Any variety of English is fine if used consistently. Off the Grid Editing applies Chicago author-date and keeps your chosen spelling throughout. Submissions go through the journal's Open Journal Systems site.
Our Promise
We will ensure that the final draft you receive is completely ready to submit to Engaging Science, Technology, and Society. We work with you until it is ready or refund your payment in full. That commitment has held since 2002.
Our editors do not have access to your manuscript until an order is placed. Your draft is secure until you decide to proceed.
Manuscript Editing and Proofreading for Engaging Science, Technology, and Society
We offer three levels of manuscript editing depending on what your manuscript needs. Each is described below so you can choose the service that fits where your draft is right now.
Grammar and usage, awkward phrasing, repetition, and passive voice corrected, then clarity, concision, sentence structure, transitions, and tone, with your style manual applied throughout and a final proofread. For authors whose argument and structure are settled.
Clarity, emphasis, and paragraph structure: topic sentences, transitions, and sentences reordered within a paragraph, with every fact and claim kept as you wrote it. Includes copy editing and a final proofread.
Spelling, punctuation, typos, capitalization, grammar, and usage corrected with minimal wording changes, for manuscripts that have been edited and need a last check before submission to Engaging Science, Technology, and Society.
The journal's submission guidelines cover length, formats, and citations. If you have reviewer comments from an earlier submission, send them with your manuscript and we will address each one. If you have questions about which service is right for your manuscript, contact us directly. We respond to every inquiry the same day during business hours.
See journal article and essay editing for how we edit interdisciplinary research, and academic proofreading for the last read before submission. If English is your second language, see English language editing for researchers. We also prepare articles for Science, Technology, & Human Values and Social Studies of Science.
