Manuscript Editing for Environment and History Journal Articles
Founded in 1995, Environment and History brings scholars in the humanities and the natural sciences together to build long-term perspectives on environmental problems. The White Horse Press publishes it four times a year, and the European Society for Environmental History has a seat on its advisory committee. Its editor is at Northumbria University.
Research articles run about 8,000 words and no more than 10,000, references included, and rest on an original body of evidence. Snapshots essays of 2,000 words begin as proposals. Citations follow the journal's own style guide, which refers authors to the Chicago Manual of Style for anything it leaves open. References go in footnotes, given in full at first mention and short-titled after. Spelling is British with -is endings, quotation marks are single, and there is no serial comma. An abstract of 100 to 150 words and about five keywords open the article. Review is double-blind, by at least two experts. The journal asks for clear, correct English. Off the Grid Editing applies the house style and edits English-language manuscripts for a mixed humanities and science readership. Submissions go through the journal's Open Journal Systems site as one anonymized file.
Our Promise
We will ensure that the final draft you receive is completely ready to submit to Environment and History. We work with you until it is ready or refund your payment in full. That commitment has held since 2002.
Our editors do not have access to your manuscript until an order is placed. Your draft is secure until you decide to proceed.
Manuscript Editing and Proofreading for Environment and History
We offer three levels of manuscript editing depending on what your manuscript needs. Each is described below so you can choose the service that fits where your draft is right now.
Grammar and usage, awkward phrasing, repetition, and passive voice corrected, then clarity, concision, sentence structure, transitions, and tone, with your style manual applied throughout and a final proofread. For authors whose argument and structure are settled.
Clarity, emphasis, and paragraph structure: topic sentences, transitions, and sentences reordered within a paragraph, with every fact and claim kept as you wrote it. Includes copy editing and a final proofread.
Spelling, punctuation, typos, capitalization, grammar, and usage corrected with minimal wording changes, for manuscripts that have been edited and need a last check before submission to Environment and History.
The journal's submission guidelines cover length, footnotes, and anonymization. If you have reviewer comments from an earlier submission, send them with your manuscript and we will address each one. If you have questions about which service is right for your manuscript, contact us directly. We respond to every inquiry the same day during business hours.
See journal article and essay editing for how we edit historical scholarship, and academic proofreading for the last read before submission. If English is your second language, see English language editing for researchers. We also prepare articles for ISLE and Past & Present.
