Manuscript Editing for ISLE: Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment Journal Articles
ISLE: Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment is the quarterly journal of the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment. It brings the environmental humanities together with environmental justice, and it welcomes work on literature, art, and film from many geographies. Oxford University Press publishes it, and its editor-in-chief is at Clark University.
Scholarly articles run 6,500 to 8,500 words, counting notes and works cited, and open with a 100-word abstract after the title. Citations follow the MLA Handbook, 9th edition. Notes are endnotes made with the word processor's own endnote feature, followed by a double-spaced works cited list. Spelling is American, following Merriam-Webster. The journal also publishes creative nonfiction, fiction, and poetry. Review is anonymous, and authors may suggest reviewers. Off the Grid Editing builds the works cited list in MLA form and checks each endnote against it. Submissions go through ScholarOne as Word files only, one manuscript at a time.

We offer three levels of manuscript editing depending on what your manuscript needs. Each is described below so you can choose the service that fits where your draft is right now.
Grammar and usage, awkward phrasing, repetition, and passive voice corrected, then clarity, concision, sentence structure, transitions, and tone, with your style manual applied throughout and a final proofread. For authors whose argument and structure are settled.
Clarity, emphasis, and paragraph structure: topic sentences, transitions, and sentences reordered within a paragraph, with every fact and claim kept as you wrote it. Includes copy editing and a final proofread.
Spelling, punctuation, typos, capitalization, grammar, and usage corrected with minimal wording changes, for manuscripts that have been edited and need a last check before submission to ISLE: Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment.
