Manuscript Editing for Journal of Speculative Philosophy Articles
The Journal of Speculative Philosophy “publishes systematic and interpretive essays about basic philosophical questions,” with particular interest in exchange between Continental and American philosophy. Penn State University Press publishes it quarterly, and its editor is in the Department of Philosophy at Emory University. It also publishes discussions of art, religion, and literature, and every issue carries book reviews.
Regular essays run 4,000 to 6,500 words, not counting the Works Cited and abstract. Citations are Chicago author-date, 18th edition, with the Works Cited placed before any endnotes. Endnotes are kept for peripheral points and never carry citations. The abstract runs up to 200 words, written in the third person, with up to five keywords, and each author may submit once per calendar year. Review is double-anonymous. Off the Grid Editing moves citations out of the notes and into author-date form. Submissions go through Editorial Manager.
Our Promise

Our editors do not have access to your manuscript until an order is placed. Your draft is secure until you decide to proceed.
Manuscript Editing and Proofreading for the Journal of Speculative Philosophy
We offer three levels of manuscript editing depending on what your manuscript needs. Each is described below so you can choose the service that fits where your draft is right now.
Grammar and usage, awkward phrasing, repetition, and passive voice corrected, then clarity, concision, sentence structure, transitions, and tone, with your style manual applied throughout and a final proofread. For authors whose argument and structure are settled.
Clarity, emphasis, and paragraph structure: topic sentences, transitions, and sentences reordered within a paragraph, with every fact and claim kept as you wrote it. Includes copy editing and a final proofread.
Spelling, punctuation, typos, capitalization, grammar, and usage corrected with minimal wording changes, for manuscripts that have been edited and need a last check before submission to Journal of Speculative Philosophy.
Penn State's submission guidelines cover length, citations, and the abstract. If you have reviewer comments from an earlier submission, send them with your manuscript and we will address each one. If you have questions about which service is right for your manuscript, contact us directly. We respond to every inquiry the same day during business hours.
Our journal article and essay editing page explains how we edit philosophical writing, and academic proofreading covers the last read before submission. We also prepare articles for Continental Philosophy Review, and manuscript editing services lays out each level of editing we offer.
