Manuscript Editing for Osiris Journal Articles
Founded by George Sarton in 1936 and relaunched by the History of Science Society in 1985, Osiris is an annual thematic journal. Each volume connects the history of science with other historical and interdisciplinary scholarship. The University of Chicago Press publishes it, and its four co-editors include scholars at the University of Bologna and Penn State.
Guest editors conceive each volume and propose it to the editorial board ahead of the society's annual meeting. Citations follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition, in footnotes only, with no parenthetical citations and no p. or pp. Later citations use the author's surname and a short title, and journal names are abbreviated as in the Isis Current Bibliography. The journal does not consider text or images produced by generative AI, and machine-translated quotations must be checked with care. Off the Grid Editing sets the footnotes in Osiris form and keeps a volume's chapters consistent with one another. Manuscripts go to the editors as Word or PDF files.
