Manuscript Editing for Isis Journal Articles

Order Manuscript Editing Founded in 1912, Isis is an official publication of the History of Science Society. It publishes articles, research notes, and reviews on the history of science, medicine, and technology and their cultural influences. The University of Chicago Press publishes it quarterly. Its editorial office is at Ashoka University in India, with a second base at the University of Toronto.

Articles run up to 13,000 words, counting notes, abstract, and images, with each image counted as 400 words; 8,000 to 12,000 is recommended. Citations are Chicago-style notes with no in-text citations and no bibliography. Later citations use a short form, and journal titles are spelled out at first citation, then abbreviated as in the Isis Current Bibliography. The abstract runs about 150 words. Quotations from non-English sources are translated into English in the text. Review is double-blind, usually by two or more reviewers. Off the Grid Editing sets the notes in Isis form and counts each image toward the limit. Submissions go through Editorial Manager as Word files.

Human Manuscript Editor

Natural Intelligence for Isis

Natural Intelligence is our name for editorial judgment: an editor who reads your manuscript the way the editors and peer reviewers of the Isis will and verifies every change before it comes back to you. We read as a historian of science does, checking that each instrument, theory, and archive is cited so another scholar could find it. Track Changes stays on throughout.

Our Promise

We will ensure that the final draft you receive is completely ready to submit to Isis. We work with you until it is ready or refund your payment in full. That commitment has held since 2002.

Our editors do not have access to your manuscript until an order is placed. Your draft is secure until you decide to proceed.

Manuscript Editing and Proofreading for Isis

We offer three levels of manuscript editing depending on what your manuscript needs. Each is described below so you can choose the service that fits where your draft is right now.

Manuscript Copy Editing

Grammar and usage, awkward phrasing, repetition, and passive voice corrected, then clarity, concision, sentence structure, transitions, and tone, with your style manual applied throughout and a final proofread. For authors whose argument and structure are settled.

Manuscript Line Editing

Clarity, emphasis, and paragraph structure: topic sentences, transitions, and sentences reordered within a paragraph, with every fact and claim kept as you wrote it. Includes copy editing and a final proofread.

Manuscript Proofreading

Spelling, punctuation, typos, capitalization, grammar, and usage corrected with minimal wording changes, for manuscripts that have been edited and need a last check before submission to Isis.
