Manuscript Editing for The British Journal for the History of Science Articles
The British Journal for the History of Science has published since 1962, succeeding a society bulletin begun in 1949. It reads the history of science broadly, taking in medicine, technology, and social studies of science, and its book reviews are a central feature. Cambridge University Press publishes it quarterly for the British Society for the History of Science. Its editors are at the University of York and Swansea University.
Research articles normally run no more than 10,000 words, counting endnotes and references. Citations follow the journal's house style in numbered endnotes, with one note number per sentence placed after the full stop. Repeat citations use op. cit., and the journal avoids ibid. Spelling follows the Oxford English Dictionary. The abstract runs 150 to 200 words. Review is double-anonymous after the editor's assessment. Research articles are published open access. Authors whose first language is not English may use a language check at their own cost. Off the Grid Editing applies the house style and edits English-language manuscripts in British spelling. Submissions go by email to the editorial assistant as a Word file.

Manuscript Editing and Proofreading for The British Journal for the History of Science
We offer three levels of manuscript editing depending on what your manuscript needs. Each is described below so you can choose the service that fits where your draft is right now.
Grammar and usage, awkward phrasing, repetition, and passive voice corrected, then clarity, concision, sentence structure, transitions, and tone, with your style manual applied throughout and a final proofread. For authors whose argument and structure are settled.
Clarity, emphasis, and paragraph structure: topic sentences, transitions, and sentences reordered within a paragraph, with every fact and claim kept as you wrote it. Includes copy editing and a final proofread.
Spelling, punctuation, typos, capitalization, grammar, and usage corrected with minimal wording changes, for manuscripts that have been edited and need a last check before submission to The British Journal for the History of Science.
Cambridge's author instructions cover length, notes, and spelling. If you have reviewer comments from an earlier submission, send them with your manuscript and we will address each one. If you have questions about which service is right for your manuscript, contact us directly. We respond to every inquiry the same day during business hours.
Our journal article and essay editing page explains how we edit historical scholarship, and academic proofreading is the final pass. If English is your second language, see English language editing for researchers. For books, see Cambridge University Press manuscript editing. We also prepare articles for Isis and the Journal of the History of Biology.
